This weekend the first stage of the 2022 Italian Speed Championship will take place on the Misano World Circuit, a stage that will see the forced absence of the two-time European Champion Kevin Manfredi who, after the bad crash in the MotoE tests in Jerez de la Frontera last year March 8, he reported 6-rib fractures, pleural perforation and liver lacerations.
Thus declared Unfit, the Spezzino will be forced to remain stationary in the box in order not to risk further physical problems in view of the next seasonal appointments.
He tried to be ready until the very last moment, but sometimes you have to think from the head and not just from the heart.
"Better to skip a race, instead of risking greater consequences and losing the rest of the season" these are the words of Kevin that he wants to recover his fitness to be 100% competitive again.
Kevin Manfredi: "The injury in Jerez was tough, even though I feel good and I don't have excessive pain, I absolutely must not underestimate my current form and so thanks to the doctors, the support of Ivan and Team Penta, we decided that it is better to skip the first race instead of risking greater consequences and losing the rest of the season.
However, I will be present on the track, not as a rider but as a track technician because I care a lot about the development of my GSX-R for when I get back on the saddle.
The Penta team asked me to choose my replacement so I chose Danny Webb who will also be my teammate in the Endurance World Championship, alongside him this weekend he will also have James Toseland, the two-time Superbike World Champion.
I think Danny has a very similar style to mine and his experience can help me face the rest of the Season Rounds.
I admit that I am very sorry not to be able to race but health is essential, especially to get back to being fast and competitive. "
Kevin will therefore continue the recovery and rehabilitation phase to be ready for the next tests and races that will cover the three championships in which he will participate in 2022, with the hope of returning as soon as possible to do what he loves most and give his best as always!
Kevin thanks all the sponsors and technical partners of the 2022 season.
