Over the past weekend, the Barcelona circuit hosted the thirteenth and fourteenth Grand Prix of the 2023 MotoE World Championship, attracting thousands of fans to the stands who attended the double round of the Catalan GP.
In this exciting race weekend, the Spezzino rider faced challenges and bad luck that characterized his journey.
In fact, bad luck appeared right from the first free practice sessions, when a crash cast a shadow over the whole weekend. In FP2 Kevin showed his fighting spirit, setting a good pace focused on race pace, until qualifying where a series of unfortunate events complicated things, with the first lap canceled due to yellow flags and a problem with the front tire which prevented Kevin from progressing in Q2. This jeopardized his hopes of starting in the top 10.
In the first race, Kevin gave it his all, recovering positions from the start and fighting for fifth place in a group of riders enclosed in just three seconds from 1st to 10th place.
The second race, on the other hand, saw a new bad luck linked to the front tyre, slowing Kevin down after a battle with one of the most experienced riders in the category, Eric Granado. In the end, Kevin therefore only reached 12th place.
Kevin: "Luck in Barcelona wasn't on our side. We faced numerous misfortunes related to the new front tyre, problems also confirmed by Michelin after qualifying and the second race. I fought to the best of my ability, but in MotoE, starting behind means facing a tough race, given the parity of the bikes and the difficulty in recovering positions.I'm happy with my speed and I'm sure we can prove our worth if we start well at Misano, as we did at Mugello, Le Mans and Silverstone "That will be our target for the San Marino Grand Prix. It's time to show our competitiveness for the whole weekend."
Kevin will be back on track on Thursday for a collective and development test related to the Michelin tyre, while the last MotoE Grand Prix of the 2023 season will officially begin on Friday.
Kevin thanks all the sponsors and technical partners of the 2023 season.
